Summer 2025 Online Elementary Chinese, Japanese, & Korean


Expedite your language learning!

You'll learn one year of material in two months with asynchronous online lectures (two hours a day) and daily two hour drill classes on Zoom! If you're a KU student this means you can complete foreign language requirements earlier and unlock more advanced courses at KU. For non-KU students this language course provides the flexibility to learn anywhere you want!

How to enroll

KU Students can enroll via Enroll & Pay! If you're a new, non-degree seeking, or returning KU student you will need to apply to KU before enrolling.

CHIN 104 

June 2 - June 27,  Monday-Friday 2-4pm

An introduction to spoken and written modern standard Chinese (Mandarin). For summer session intensives the course meets for 20 hours a week.

CHIN 108

June 30 - July 27, Monday-Friday 2-4pm

Continuation of CHIN 104. Prerequisite: CHIN 101, CHIN 104, or equivalent.

 

JPN 104 

June 2 - June 27,  Monday-Friday 9-11am

Acquisition of basic language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing). Not available for credit for students who have previously completed JPN 101. For summer session intensives the course meets for 20 hours a week.

JPN 108

June 30 - July 27, Monday-Friday 9-11am

Continuation of JPN 104. Prerequisite: JPN 101, JPN 104, or equivalent.

 

KOR 104 

June 2 - June 27,  Monday-Friday 9-11am

This course provides an introduction to basic communicative skills in Korean. Speaking, listening, reading, writing, and culture are equally emphasized throughout the course. No previous background knowledge of Korean is required. For summer session intensives the course meets for 20 hours a week.

KOR 108

June 30 - July 27, Monday-Friday 9-11am

Continuation of KOR 104. Prerequisite: KOR 104, or equivalent.
